If you’re starting to do landscaping as a hobby or a new profession then it’s very crucial for you to understand the principles of landscaping. You should know that there are several elements that would make a good landscape design, and if you mastered these elements than you can create a beautiful landscape in no time, but remember that when creating a landscaping design you should always use your creativity because that’s where the beauty comes from.

The first principle is Unity. Which means every elements you used in your design should have a relatively same colors, heights, textures and to ensure this principle you can apply the consistency and repetition principle that would gives you a set of rules to manage all the unity aspects of your design.

The second principle would be about Simplicity. Simplicity can be applied to yard spaces, which means you have to compare between the size of your yard with the materials you will be using in your design, simplicity can also be applied as using limited material’s color shades, plants, if you’re using too many variations then people will find it difficult to decide what do you want to say in your design, and having too many different things can also lead you to chaos.

The third principle is about balance. The balance principle can also be interpreted as a propotional in term of materials volume or its characteristics, you can have two side with unbalanced amount of rocks for example, or you can not also have too many different colors, textures in your design.

The fourth example is focalization which means you need to have an object that will place the role of catching the attention of your visitors, you could use several objects such as statue, fountain, trees, gazebo, this way you can get your visitors’ attention more easliy, don’t place an object that is too big because that will take away all the attention to the surroundings.

Study and apply these 4 basic principles of a good landscaping design, and it really doesn’t matter whether you have a small or a big yard, because you can apply these principles on any kind of yard, remember that the real beautiy will come from your own heart, your own creativity so don’t just rely on these rules, reading some books about landscaping can also broaden your perspective and give you more ideas to implement so let’s start from these principles first and let’s see where you can go from there.
